The Spiritual Web, August 7, 2015

"The Spiritual Web" is a new weekly feature in which I share some things from around the Web that have inspired my spiritual life. I hope these links prompt moments of reflection.

The Power of Ritual. Over at On Being, Courtney E. Martin writes about the power of ritual in acknowledging and accepting suffering. Every spiritual practice includes some sort of ritual. For me, I begin my prayers and meditation with the Frolic of the Five Animals. I find that it softens my heart so it can expand and welcome all.

Thunderclap. August 6 was the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Dorothy Day's reflection is always a good. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has an interview with a second-generation survivor. The good people at Global Zero offer an opportunity to stand in solidarity with the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Find the Inner Voice. Noor al-Mosawi reminds me that my spiritual life should connect me with my inner voice. I need to listen to those voices--those spirits of consolation and desolation--to understand God's will. I found her artwork a sanctuary where I could pause, reflect, and listen.
